| Room 1 - PICCIO, « an ‘artist of the future’, fifty years ago»:
Under this heading, as early as 1892, the obscure critic Silvio Marco Spaventa, introduced Giovanni Carnovali, known as Piccio [ 1804-1873].
By doing so he was reusing the terminology that the Scapigliati liked to use for themselves, and that the Futurists would later borrow.
For the first time, less than twenty years after Piccio’s death, somebody attempted to demonstrate that Piccio’s evolution had be premonitory of the Scapigliati’s of whose, during the last years of his life, he had shared some of the early battles.
For that reason, it seemed to me necessary to open the exhibition with a mini retrospective of his work.
